Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT / TSE: 6501), today announced new certified and optimized converged infrastructure solutions for the SAP HANA™ platform to give organizations the ability to accelerate better business decisions and provide advanced business insight based on instant, intuitive access to data. With integrated and virtualized storage and compute blade solutions, HDS provides a single, virtualized and scalable storage and data management infrastructure for the complete spectrum of SAP® production, test and development, and archival data.

“With data continuing to grow at exponential rates, improving performance, manageability, and data integrity requires the right storage and infrastructure,” said Mike Walkey, senior vice president, Global Partners and Alliances, Hitachi Data Systems. “Hitachi Converged Platform for SAP HANA gives our joint customers the pre-validated solutions and software to access the data that runs their business faster while delivering real-time analytics – ultimately accelerating business innovation while building on our joint commitment to help organizations enable growth in advanced SAP solution-based environments.”

Hitachi Converged Platform for SAP HANA combines Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage (AMS) 2000 enterprise class storage and Hitachi Compute Blade 2000 with SAP in-memory computing technology for a broad range of high-speed analytic capabilities. SAP’s virtualization strategy spreads workloads across three tiers of client, application and database, which enables extended growth and flexibility. The Hitachi Data Systems storage infrastructure extends this model by layering on a conceptual fourth tier for virtualized storage. This provides one all-encompassing platform that allows organizations to leverage HDS features including storage and server virtualization, dynamic provisioning, and advanced business continuity solutions for predictable performance, quicker deployment and seamless scalability to enable the analysis of vast amounts of business information.

“Hitachi Converged Platform for SAP HANA represents the next step in our global partner alliance with Hitachi to enhance value for our customers through integrated IT solutions that simplify business processes,” said Steve Lucas, global general manager, SAP Business Analytics & Technology, SAP. “We look forward to continue working with Hitachi Data Systems to provide organizations robust solutions to transform business processes through better management and analysis of their data while helping to reduce implementation costs.”

“Hitachi and SAP have a long history of collaboration and we are proud that this first milestone of our global technology partnership takes our partnership to a new level,” said Toshiaki Kawamura, division vice president, Enterprise Server Division, Hitachi, Ltd. “At Hitachi we have developed our business globally; not only our information and telecommunication infrastructure business but also in areas such as electronics, electricity, transit and urban infrastructure. We have leading implementation expertise in support of SAP applications and now look forward to creating a framework for deeper integration and collaboration across Hitachi companies worldwide.”

Hitachi Converged Platform for SAP HANA is the newest addition to the Hitachi Data Systems portfolio of converged data center solutions that combine and optimize enterprise class storage systems and compute blades from Hitachi as well as standard network infrastructure components for a broad range of applications and cloud environments. Through quicker deployment, automation and scalability, the new solutions help organizations adopt cloud at their own pace and see predictable results with faster time to value.

Hitachi and SAP Alliance
Hitachi and its subsidiaries, including HDS, have had a strategic relationship with SAP since 1994, including the sale, integration and implementation of SAP solutions. Together, Hitachi and SAP certify integrated offerings that provide mutual customers with industry-leading availability, scalability and performance for their critical corporate information. Hitachi Converged Platform for SAP HANA is the first milestone in the Hitachi and SAP global technology partnership, which includes integration of HDS technologies with SAP software, first announced in May 2011.

Customer benefits of Hitachi solutions integrated with SAP applications include the following:

  • Predictable, Repeatable, Reliable Results: Pre-validated reference architectures, pre-packaged solutions with enterprise-class components across the entire stack, and targeted provisioning to help ensure consistent, predictable results as organizations look to manage and store massive volumes of fast-changing data.
  • Exceptional Performance: High-density computing and throughput with wide-striping technology for enhanced utilization. Customers benefit from flexible server management capabilities and scalable architectures.
  • Faster Time to Value: Quicker, simpler deployment offered from a single source for ordering and for providing services for planning and implementation. Pre-configuration and SAP validation of key components drastically reduces onsite deployment time. Intelligent automation of complex tasks enables rapid provisioning of resources with the assurance that the appropriate underlying infrastructure components are in place.
